Here is a demo for a song that I wrote exactly one year ago. I don’t have plans to do anything further with it, but I thought I’d share it now, just for kicks.
I was walking from Capitol Hill to Queen Anne in the evening, after there had been some demonstrations and reports of vandalism and stuff. Scratching out some casual observations as I went (more to do with what I’d heard about than what I’d actually seen, since things had quieted down by that point; even the few straggling juggalos I passed on Denny looked more placid than not), I arrived at home with enough lines to form the verses and part of the bridge.
It took a little while to develop and finish, as things do, and by the time I got around to recording the demo, it turned into what has to be the sassiest groove I’ve ever written. It’s called “12 Bar May Day Rag,” although it should be noted that the sections are not cut up into 12-bar phrases, and I don’t think it could even be defined as a rag, technically. Misdirection all over the place!

P.S. The next official ACLs single, “Industry,” is coming very soon!!!
